Sugar workers are covered with black char as they harvest cane in the hot sun after fields are burned. Canes are burned before they are cut because leaves from the plant are so sharp they dull blades of their machetes. The stalks are then loaded on a truck, taken to a mill to be processed into white and brown sugar. This is at the Pomalca sugar cane coop located at Campo Rosaliais in Peru; Peru
