Feral mink (Mustela vison). This mink, surrounded by the feathers of its last kill, lives close to man by the harbour of a small west Iceland village. Like many countries, Iceland farmed mink for a time and now has a feral population of North American mink. A very bold member of the weasel family, it has caused a lot of damage to the bird populations. Iceland has only one indigenous land mammal, the Arctic fox, with which the mink now competes. Bounties have not proved effective in culling mink in Iceland.
