Brisbane, satellite image. North is at top. This city is the capital of the Australian state Queensland. It lies on the Brisbane river, which flows east through the city. The central business district (CBD) of Brisbane lies within the bend of the river at lower left. The tip of the spur of land at centre is Kangaroo point, where the river is crossed by the Story Bridge. The southern tip of the CBD (bottom centre) is linked to the opposite bank by the Captain Cook Bridge. The urban area of Brisbane has a population of around 1.8 million (2005).
