Narrowed femoral artery. Coloured angiogram of stenosis (narrowing) in the left femoral artery of a 49-year-old patient. The femur (thigh bone) runs down right and the femoral artery runs down centre. The artery has become narrowed in multiple places due to atheroma, fatty deposits on the inner wall. Treatment is usually an angioplasty, where a stent (wire mesh tube) is inserted into an artery and expanded, keeping the artery open to ensure normal blood flow.
