Roberts' observatory. Located in Crowborough, Sussex, England, this observatory was built from around 1890 by the Welsh astronomer Isaac Roberts (1829-1904). His house in Crowborough was called 'Starfield'. Roberts and his assistant made their observations with their 20-inch reflector telescope, taking a large number of pictures of astronomical objects, including many galaxies. In 1895, this work, and earlier work with the same telescope, earned Roberts the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society.
