Apollo 15 lunar orbiter at the Moon, 2nd August 1971. This is a view of the Command Service Module (CSM) Endeavour from the Lunar Module (LM) Falcon. On board the Lunar Module were the US astronauts David Scott and James Irwin, returning from their 66-hour mission on the surface of the Moon. On board the CSM was US astronaut Alfred Worden. The two craft docked, and the three astronauts returned to Earth in the CSM. The LM (Falcon) was jettisoned and its engines fired causing it to impact the lunar surface. The command module section of the CSM (cone-shaped) was used in the actual splashdown on Earth. The service module (cylindrical) was discarded and burnt up in the Earth's atmosphere on re-entry.
