Derelict lake steamer, The Robert Coryndon, lies rusting on its side at Butiaba on the eastern shores of Lake Albert, refusing to submit to the overwhelming forces of nature. The 850-ton twin-screw steamship entered service in 1930, and was regarded as the most luxurious of all passenger boats operating an elegant service to Pakwach on the Nile and to Kasenye in the Congo. After months of heavy rain in 1963-64, Lake Albert rose to unprecedented levels, and Butiaba port was submerged. The Robert Coryndon capsized and was finally abandoned in 1965.
