Nursery of spiderlings forming a mass on a web. These are spiderlings of Araneus diadematus, often called the garden spider. These nymphs are a common sight in gardens in spring. They hatch early in the year from eggs laid in the previous autumn, and will not reach maturity until the second summer after hatching. At this stage they are capable of spinning a web, but will soon disperse and each lead an independent existence, catching small prey.
