Electron flow. Computer model of electron flow in a 2-dimensional electrical landscape. The pattern observed depends upon both the initial conditions and the electric potential. The electrons enter at several points and then spread over the landscape. The dark branches show the channeling or focusing effect due to a bumpy landscape (varying electric potential). The effect is indirect though, and the patterns are actually independent of the landscape and are seen to overlap. This indicates that the patterns depend on the initial launch point. This is a feature of random systems and reflects the eventual chaotic motion observed. This model was created as an artwork by Professor Eric Heller.
