Amanita muscaria mushrooms. Three specimens of the Fly Agaric mushroom Amanita muscaria var. formosa. They have a distinctive orange or scarlet cap covered with white, wart-like fragments which get washed away by rain. The stem is long and fluffy. Amanita muscaria is found growing in pine woods and birch woods, often many together. It produces a strong hallucinogen and intoxicant, and as such is poisonous but not deadly. Photographed in Ross County, Ohio, USA.
