False-colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the collar of a pure cotton shirt after it has been washed in an automatic washing machine at 50 degrees C (medium wash) with Daz washing powder. The woven cotton threads, which themselves consist of many sub-threads, are completely clear of any grease or dirt. Compare with H120/042, which shows the same piece of collar before washing.
