Jacob B. Winslow (1669-1760), Danish anatomist. Winslow was born in Odense, Denmark, but lived and worked in France. He taught anatomy at the Jardin du Roi (Royal Gardens) in Paris. He concentrated on accurate descriptions of his subject, discarding hypothetical explanations and physiological details. A ligament in the leg, and a foramen near the liver are named after him. He altered his name to Jacques-Benigne Winslow in homage to Bishop Jacques-Benigne Bossuet, whom he greatly admired.
