MODEL RELEASED. Cancer chemotherapy. Elderly man receiving cancer chemotherapy from a nurse. The drug doxorubicin is being injected into the tube through which fluid from intravenous drips (upper right) travels into his bloodstream. Cancer is the unchecked growth of abnormal cells. In chemother- apy, anticancer drugs are used to kill these cells or stop them from multiplying. Unfortunately the drugs act on all rapidly dividing cells, not just cancer cells, so the bone marrow, hair follicles, intestinal lining, ovaries and testes are all also affected, sometimes causing severe side-effects. The man is seen with his sister. Photographed in Newcastle General Hospital in England.
