Diabetes mellitus is a carbohydrate metabolism disorder, in which unused sugars accumulate in the blood and urine. It is usually caused by insufficient insulin production from the pancreas. Treatment of diabetes depends on the levels of sugar in the blood. A strict diet may be successful in controlling diabetes, or insulin injections may be necessary.
