Apollo 12 spacecraft. Yankee Clipper Command and Service Module (CSM) for the Apollo 12 mission during construction. The CSM is comprised of a command module (cone-shape) linked to a service module (barrel-shape). The command module cont- ains the crew compartment and the re-entry heat shield. The service module contains propulsion systems, electrical power and sustenance for the astronauts. The third section of an Apollo 12 spacecraft, the lunar landing module, connects to the command module in space. Apollo 12 (14-24 November 1969), the second mission to land on the Moon, was launched with astronauts Charles Conrad, Richard Gordon and Alan Bean aboard.
