ROSAT mission control. View of the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC), the control centre for the ROSAT X-ray astronomy satellite. ESOC is responsible for the orbit, pointing and operation of the satellite, and is in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany. The large screens in the background show the satellite's position over the Earth and a variety of operational data. ROSAT is a collaborative project between Germany, the UK and the USA. Since its launch in 1990, ROSAT has made numerous important discoveries in the X-ray and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) wavebands.
