Voyager 2 image of white, high-altitude, cirrus" clouds in the atmosphere above Neptune's southern hemisphere. The structure & trails of the clouds, moving from east to west, suggest that waves are present in the Neptunian atmosphere & play a large role in producing the types of clouds that are visible. The image was recorded by Voyager 2's wide-angle camera from a distance of 590,000 km on August 25, 1989. It has been processed to obtain true colour balance; additional processing was used to suppress the surface brightness of the clouds so that their structure is better seen."
