Petrol rationing stamps. Petrol (gasoline) ration stamps being inspected with a magnifying glass after being printed in the USA in response to the 1973 oil crisis. This crisis occurred when the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) declared an oil embargo during a period of hostilities between Israel and several Arab nations. Prices soared and forms of rationing implemented. These rationing stamps were printed but never used as the embargo was ended in March 1974. Photographed on 31 January 1974, at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Washington, DC, USA.
