Nineteenth century douche, pictured with its case. Douches were used in this era for rinsing bodily orifices including the vagina, the rectum and the intestines. Rinsing fluid would be held in the cylindrical glass container and a pump mechanism would control the passage of this fluid into the navy blue hose. This douche dates from around 1850, England.
