Matilda Talbot. 1840s daguerreotype of Matilda Talbot (1839-1927), third daughter of British pioneer of photography William Henry Fox Talbot (1800-1877). Talbot took this early photograph circa 1843. Daguerreotype photography was invented by the French painter Louis Daguerre in 1837 and was the first form of photography to be widely used.
