Wil; Switzerland; upper body of St. Pancratius. The relic of a presumed martyr from the Roman Catacombs arrived in the city's church of St. Nicholas in the 1670s. The relic was considered miraculous. This detail shows openings in the armor to reveal the bones. The silver armor dates to the centennial anniversary of the relic's arrival in Wil; and was commissioned from a silversmith in Augsburg. Originally the skeleton was robed in Roman-style military attire. Photo 2010.
