Roggenburg; Germany; detail of the hand and arm of St. Venantius. One of four skeletons presumed to be those of martyrs acquired by the former monastery church. The skeletons are largely camouflaged by face masks and heavy clothing; and only select bones are visible through cutaways in their costumes; as here. None of the relics are normally on view; since their shrines are hidden by painted covers. They are removed only for an annual procession on August 15. Photo 2012.
