Lulworth , the English ' Bastille ' . Castle that reduced exiled French Monarch to tears . Bearing so great a resemblance to the castles of his beloved France that the exiled King Charles X burst into tears at sight of it , Lulworth Castle , at Wareham , Dorset , is the English ' Bastille ' . The appearabce of the famous prison , the storming of which in 1789 commenced the French Revolution , , is familiar through innumerable prints and it is through these that the similarity of the two historic buildings is seen . the name of King Charles X , who was exiled by the 1830 Revolution , was inscribed on the bedroom door at the Castle until the recent fire .
