Bank of England presents historic strip of pavement to city . Scane ' s architecture preserved . An unusual gift , a historic strip of pavement at the Tivoli Corner of the Bank , hitherto enclosed by iron railings is to be presented to the City Corporation by the Bank of England . The Lord Mayor will receive the gift on September 15 . The corner , at the junction of Princess Street and Lothbury , is one of the most interesting features of the Bank from an architectural point of view . At the time it was decide to rebuild the Bank the trustees of Sir John Scanes Museum protested against the design , being altered and the city corporation simultaneously urged the necessity of widening Princes Street . The difficulty was overcome by the gift , which provides a public short cut between Princess Street and Lothbury through the interior of the new Tivoli . Scane ' s original design will be preserved .
