This man stood out against 27,000 men. Strike breaker with 'bite'!. The Rev H L Queen. Storekeeper at the Jones and Laughlin Corporation steel plant at Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, chose to work although 27,000 men were idle when the Committee of Industrial Organisation, Mr John L Lewis trade union, called a strike at the works. When he tried to enter the plant, Mr Queen was set upon by infuriated pickets. He fought back valiantly, using his teeth when his arms pinioned, and eventually got clear with only a black eye. Photo shows, the Rev HL Queen closing his teeth on the hand of a striker as angered pickets tried to prevent him entering the steelworks. 20 May 1937
