Pheasant chick approves zoo keeper as ' foster' father . A horned pheasant chick which is extremely independent is being reared by hand at the London zoo. The mother pheasant refused to look after her eggs and they were put under the care of another bird who succeeded in hatchet one. But the chick refused to go to its foster mother and is now being raised on a mixture of hard-boiled egg, lettuce and seed. It has its own trade and spends the night in the keepers room beside an electric fire. Photo shows, the horned pheasant chick fearlessly eating from a spoon held in the mouth of Keeper Arthur Hopper. 26 June 1937
