An inter-team and ralay meeting was held by Blackheath Harriers at University of London Athletic Ground, Motspur Park, Surrey. Sidney Wooderson, the British mile champion, sed a new world record of 4 minutes 6 3/5 seconds. Wooderson's time beat the previous record set by Glenn Cunningham, the American by a fifth of a second. Wooderson being congratulated by W. G. George, "Champion of Champions" of the '80's after his record run. 28 August 1937
