Dirty cars made clean in eight minutes by 'mass production!' A new idea in London. A remarkable new car valeting station, which applies the principle of mass production to the job of making cars speak and span, is to be officially opened by captain George Eyston, the holder of the world land speed record, in Edgware Road, London, next week. The car passes automatically over a line of revolving rollers and is in turn, washed, dried, greased, cleaned out, and polished by different sets of workers along the line. Some of the lighter operations are carried out by girls. A car can be washed, greased and polished in eight minutes and 60 cars can be dealt with in an hour. Photo shows, a general view of the cars on the line, some of the work is being carried out by girls. In foreground is the final operation.. 4 February 1938
