London Zoo has an ostrich for the first time in nearly 2 years. After being without an ostrich for nearly 2 years, the London Zoo now has a young bird which has been placed on view on a lawn in the centre of the gardens. The cheque is aged about six months and is under 3 feet in height. It has yet no plumes and is clad in short juvenile feathers, dappled grey and light brown. It already has the haughty manner characteristics of the ostrich, however, the bird was one of two which arrived recently from Africa. They were upset by the journey and the other died almost immediately. This one has made a for recovery. 3 August 1938
