Chinese prepare for Japanese onslaught on Nanking. Government moved. These pictures, just received in London, show how the Chinese troops, equipped with some of the most modern of war equipment, making intensive preparations to defend their capital of Nanking against the first onslaught of the Japanese marching on from captured Shanghai. The Japanese have already taken Soochow, on the road to Nanking, and the Chinese Government has removed 1000 miles further inland. To take the capital, the Japanese troops will have to break through China's 'Hindenburg line'. Photo shows, sound detectors used to give a warning aeroplanes approaching Nanking.
