Correstion . Britain ' s new challenger for the America ' s cup launched at Gosport . Mr T C M Sopwith ' s centre board steel built cutter yacht Endeavour , challenger for the America ' s Cup , was launched and christened in Portsmouth harbour from Camper and Nicholson ' s yard at Gosport , by Mrs Sopwith . The yacht will attempt to wrestle from the United States the trophy won by the schooner AMerica in 1851 and never recovered . Mr Sopwith will steer his cutter in the race for the cup , and Mrs Sopwith will accompany him . This is the first time taht a woman has taken any active part in the contest .
