Industrialisation's advantages are not all to be found in factory production - a great deal of improvement over traditional building methods can be achieved without leaving the building site. A big slum-clearance scheme in Paddington, London, has offered an opportunity to Wates Ltd. to evolve a swift and economical structural system. Unlike Reema, they do not bring their components from a factory to the site by road; instead, they set up a temporary casting yard on the site, streamlining production of concrete components, even those as complex as refuse chutes, to respond to the daily needs of the erecting teams. Three thousand cubic feet of concrete are cast every week, and the tower blocks have been going up by five floors a month. - Photo taken February 1964. 固opFoto
