Shepperton, Middlesex: Hardly recognisable with his busy beard and moustache, Sir Laurence Oliver (Left), one of British's best-known and best loved actor-directors, directs his actress wife, Joan Plowright (centre) for the first time, in a scene from the film "The Three Sisters', at Shepperton Studios, Middlesex recently. On right, is actor Derek Jacobi, apparently amused by something sufficiently distracting to allow his attention to wander from the job in hand. Miss Plowright, plays Masha, the married sister, in Olivier's screen version of the Chekhov play which features the National Theatre Company and Alab Bates as her army officer lover Vershinin. Sir Laurence too, has a small part in the film, - that of an army doctor Chebutikin, which does not detract too much from his first love of directing He last directed the "Prince And The Showgirl", co starring Marily Monroe, some 13 years ago. 20 October 1969.
