Such was the enthusiasm of the coters who took part in the Saar plebiscite that thousands of them were queued up outside the polling stations in the cold and snow from dawn waiting for 8.30am - the time at which the first vote was cast - the crowd that waited from dawn for a polling station in the centre of Saarbruecken to open included several nuns January 15th 1935
