The toe- that brought cricketer Colin Cowdrey's discharge after a month in the Royal Air Force and also brought a storm of criticism, questions in the House of Commons and a host of anonymous letters to it's unfortunate owner. Cowdrey, here at Tunbridge Wells where he played for Kent against Northamptonshire, showed the toe as part of his answer to his critics. The big toe is locked at the joint, and will not move. Cowdrey has been warned by a speacilaist that he continues to play cricket as his own risk, as the toe will get steadily worse and an operation will be necessary. He has had this bad toe since birth. 18th June 1955
