An international test match between England and America introduced the most lavish may week at Cambridge University since 1939, today. In a unique contest, which included one innings of cricket and 3 innings of baseball, the American baseball club of Cambridge University opposed the Oxford women's cricket club. Watched by a large crowd, miss shaman Douglas, daughter of the American ambassador, bowled the first ball in the cricket match. In true American style, there was a "Cheer team" of girl students who cheered on the teams in verses such as "Cibble cobble, cam: Wibble, wobble wham: Good straight bats for Uncle Sam." The games took place on Parker's piece, where Jack Hobbs and Tony Hayward played much of their early cricket. 9 June 1947
