Britain's latest advance in the air the first jet propelled flying boat in the world, built by Saunders-Roe at the Isle of Wight works, was successfully tested over the Solent. Fitted with two Metropolitan Vickers jet units, the plane is said to have a speed of more than 400 mph, the armament is four 20 mm cannon fitted in the nose, and it is one of three prototypes built for the Ministry of Supply.
