It has been a long time. After nearly 18 years service in India and Burma, The 1st Battlalion Wiltshire Regiment, arrived at Southampton aboard the 'Otranto' last evening. The troopship came into Southampton flying the Yellow Jack. The Mayors of Wiltshire towns and high-ranking Army Officers who had come to welcome the men home, were held on the quayside while Port medical officers when the board to investigate. Photo shows, General Sir William Platt, is pictured shaking hands with one of the men. Also seen are Mayors from Wiltshire towns, talking with the countrymen. 20 September 1947
