Pinene is the mostly widely distributed of all terpenes and terpenoids. The alpha and beta isomers of pinene are mostly associated with pine trees. Pinenes are the predominant compounds in turpentine. Oxidized pinene derivatives such as verbenone are used widely in perfumery.
