Zanjueelah, the boatman of the rapids, from 'The Victoria Falls, Zambezi River', pub. 1865 (colour lithographgraph). sketched on the spot; originally published with five other prints, all of Victoria Falls. A small wooden boat or canoe is piloted through the rapids by two black African boatmen, one standing at each end, using poles with a forked tip. Two white European men clutch double-barreled guns. On the shore can be seen a village of round thatched huts and trees; including baobab and two types of palm.
