Splenic marginal zone lymphoma, light micrograph. Splenic marginal zone lymphoma (SMZL) is a low-grade B-cell lymphoma that makes up 1% to 2% of all lymphomas. The median age at presentation is 65 years. The tumour is centred around the white pulp which shows replacement of pre-existing lymphoid follicles by micronodular tumoral infiltrates. One such nodule is shown in this image. This follicle has a monomorphic appearance and shows the residual germinal centre.
