Light micrograph section through a well-differentiated cancerous tumour in the oesophagus (gullet). A squamous cell carcinoma occurs most often in the upper or middle portion of the oesophagus and is the most prevalent oesophageal cancer worldwide. A cancer that is well-differentiated (low grade) means that the cancer cells look more like normal oesophageal cells.
