This powerful earthquake took place on 1 November 1755. The resulting damage, fire and tsunami caused the near total destruction of Lisbon, with an estimated 90,000 killed from a population of around 275,000. This image was produced using the Real-Time Forecasting of Tsunamis (RIFT) forecast model from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC).
