It was grown at Malmaison from 1806. In 1811 several cuttings were planted by Bonpland which were in flower at the end of March and in April. It resisted the strong frosts of 1813 and 1814 although only protected by straw matting. Bonpland sent a cutting to the gardens at Monza near Milan, where he was hoping it would set seed. The drawing shows a branch of flowers and a branch of leaves. ); 穢 Fitzwilliam Museum ; French, out of copyright.
