5053720 Fancy Street, Douglas, Isle of Man, 1895 (b/w photo) by Frowde, John James (1868-1946); Manx National Heritage (Isle of Man); (add.info.: On the back of this photograph John James Frowde writes, "Fancy Street, Douglas, 1895. McCloskey\'s Imperial Vaults on old Lord St, 1895. Remember him well. Entrance L distance (by figure of man) into Cleator\'s Lane, leading into Water Lane parallel with Fancy St, a \'lively\' locality in my boyhood. Small boy (R) with his eye glued (as mine was often in the late seventies) to the latch hole of the slaughterhouse door, with a full view of the deadly work within. August 1935 my old friend, William Corkill of Murray\'s Road (long plumber with Todhunter\'s) informed me that the stable was further along the street on the same side, nearly opposite the house with the /\ on lower storey. This was occupied by the father (also car prop) of Alfie Corlett, now of Peel Rd who in his earlier days had a stand opposite Clinch\'s Brewery with his \'inside car\', a picture of which I got done from my plate, in June 1935. The house beyond the entry to Cleator\'s Lane was the one in which William Corkill (above) was brought up."); by Manx National Heritage .
