Photograph, India, 1903 circa. In November 1902 Lord Kitchener, the Commander-in-Chief India, put into effect a series of far-reaching military reforms. His objective was to complete the unification of the Indian Army which had begun in 1895 with the abolition of the armies of the three Presidencies (Bengal, Bombay and Madras). The Cavalry regiments from the three Presidencies were now renumbered to form a unified line. The old 5th Punjab Cavalry therefore became the 25th Cavalry of the Indian Army. From an album of 87 photographs associated with Lieutenant F R Teesdale, 25th Cavalry (Frontier Force), Lahore Cantonment, 1902-1914.); by National Army Museum .
