After The Monsoon -- Frontier stone between India and Burma was set up on Tiddim Road in 1943. In dry weather road lies deep in dust, monsoon transforms it to sea of mud. In the monsoon - washed Burma jungle the 14th. Army have made military history. They have inflicted on the Japanese, who counted on their withdrawal, a major battle front by air at the beginning of the monsoon, and for over three months fought and beat the Japanese under the 'world's most depressing conditions. It is improbable that one of those men have been dry during that entire period, rain soaked ceaselessly through clothing and sheleters; and in addition the heat was intense. Now the rains are ending (October) and in a week or so the mountain roads will be thick with dust. Then both sides will brace themselves for the real "compaigning season". January 22, 1945.
