Alabastron; glass; hand modeled; thread inlay; glass; Total: Height: 19 cm; Grave goods; Antiquity; This elongated form is first found in Egypt; the vessel got its name from the material of the early pieces; alabaster. Later alabastra was also made of glass and in Greece of clay. Characteristic features are the almost cylindrical body; the hemispherical bottom; the narrow neck with the wide mouth plate and two small handles. This alabastra is freely formed from dark blue translucent glass. In the glass there are bright bubbles. White and yellow thread inlays in keel feather pattern surround the body. The impression of the crossed rod is clearly visible. At the end of the stroke; round loops can be seen in which the glass threads carried along are concentrically united. At the shoulder; the material is pushed up so that the shoulder line appears wavy and curled. This is type III.A.i (after M. C. McClellan).
