Sketches of animals and landscapes by Albrecht Durer, 1521. In the centre is a lynx with pointed ears, and upper right a hamadryas baboon with characteristic red face and rear. This assemblage of beautifully detailed studies must derive from a number of separate sketches in the zoos at Brussels and Ghent. The mountainous landscapes were added later and may represent the habitats of the lynx and chamois.
