Members of this fungal genus commonly occur on human skin and are not harmful under normal conditions. In some cases, especially in high humidity, they can cause a harmless but unpleasant skin infection which has symptoms visually similar to dandruff. This can be treated with antifungal shampoos, or by shaving the affected hair.
